I think the whole concept of creating a website that can change the world is a great idea, although a tough one to visualize. I had a really hard time trying to think of something because with the web growing so fast it seems like everything has been done. Yet, I did come up with some rough concepts that I think could work.
Concept One: —Karma—( as explained on reference.com [The effects of all deeds actively create past, present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to others.] )
>>I like the idea of what goes around comes around. That our actions directly relate to what happens or doesn’t happen in our lives. I feel like this can go along with bigger world issues and raising awareness on how we live our lives as well as personal issues. I also think this concept relates to the golden rule of treat others as you would like to be treated.
Concept Two: — Taking small steps that can change the world— I feel like a lot of times when one thinks about helping the environment they always think big…and therefore hard to do on your own. I think it would be good to show that every little bit can help. The idea that taking small steps that can slowly help the environment and the world. I was thinking of using imagery of a staircase or a ladder and each step is a small thing you can do individually to help out with a larger issue. It could be as simple as changing your light bulbs to energy efficient ones, or starting to recycle, yet it could go as big as having a hybrid car instead of a huge SUV.

Misty, I think both of your ideas are really interesting. I like them both but think the second one would be interesting to do a site on. It would be neat if you actually visually showed how much these small steps can change the world, and maybe have each small step lead up to the “big picture” of an issue, pretty much exactly what you were saying with the ladder/staircase concept. Also you could maybe even compare it to if people don’t take these small steps, you could show how the world could end up one day to really get your point across.
Comment by cgurgul February 25, 2008 @ 7:12 pmYour first idea is very interesting. Been betrayed several times i think a webiste like your sould be great so people could settle their scores. See, karma works like this; the same people you meet when you are climbing the stairs are the same people you would meet when you are go down. it’s such a small world and what this also means is that the person you ditvh today could be the lawyer or somebody you might need so bad…..with this is mind, i think you include create a website like classroom.com so people can meet old folks and settle scores..maybe….?
Comment by nmichel February 26, 2008 @ 1:32 amThanks for your comment! As for your ideas, I think the second one is working better and holds a lot of possibilities. I liked that you mentioned how small things can be easy and add up to a big difference. I think people tend to be turned off to small changes because they don’t think it makes a difference, or they think that making a difference is something too involved or hard to achieve. The ladder and steps visuals are very relevant and could definitely work, and I think there are numerous ways to present them. Are there any other objects that could represent your idea?
Comment by lilmouse February 26, 2008 @ 5:43 amI am all for the Karma issue. You know me and I believe in that a lot. One way that you may be able to approach this idea is maybe like a before and after type of idea. For example something like global warming…a picture of a lake 20 years ago and now how there is less water due global warming. Something along the lines of that.
Comment by chris fraver February 26, 2008 @ 1:04 pmI think that your first idea sounds much more interesting. Maybe a site that pushes people to do good things or asks people to do good things. When someone holds a door for another person or some other good deed, it encourages that person to do something nice for someone else. Maybe you could incorporate this kind of idea into your website.
Comment by jnieman February 26, 2008 @ 2:10 pmI really like both your ideas, and find karma the most interesting, but I can’t imagine how you would begin to use that on a site. I think your second idea would be the strongest for a site.
